At JAWS, we design high-end packrafts built for ambitious expeditions, long-distance journeys, and single-day micro-adventures.
At the foot of the Chartreuse mountains, between alpine terrain and whitewater rivers, we imagine, design, develop, test, and assemble each packraft with uncompromising standards.
Every detail matters. Every line is crafted for performance, reliability, and freedom.
JAWS is where technical precision meets the spirit of exploration.
To go further. For longer. With greater freedom.
You only have to look at Founder and Managing Director, Graham Mackereth’s collection of historic canoes to know we’re serious about open boats.
It wasn't long after the foundation of Pyranha that the inevitable happened, and our first open canoe was produced in 1977; trialling new materials and processes later led to us being the first to produce a triple layer foam sandwich canoe construction in 1989, and whilst other materials have come and gone, we’ve continued to develop and consistently improve upon this construction to ensure Venture Canoes are a reliable choice for both individuals and centres.
By 2004 we had developed a comprehensive range of Open Canoes, and the creation of the Venture brand allowed us to display these in their own space with pride and the focus for future developments.

It's a great pleasure to have Palm on board at the Open Canoe Festival. Famous British brand will provide fantastic prizes for the big prize lottery.
Passionate about rivers, canoeing and biodiversity, the Destination Rivières team offers canoe trips on the last wild rivers of France and Europe. Tumultuous rapids or smooth rivers, outdoor life, bivouacs, campfires, fishing, observation of flora and fauna - that's the program!
Destination Rivières also works regularly with scientists studying river biodiversity and NGOs protecting rivers. Their films, exhibitions and stories aim to raise public awareness of the functioning and preservation of aquatic environments that are among the most threatened in the world.
Finally, backed by this knowledge of rivers and their uses, Destination Rivières supports associations and local authorities in their forward-looking, multi-use management and environmental protection and enhancement initiatives.

Packrafts made in Drôme ! January 2018. After 8 months on a bike between France and South East Asia, Olivier, the founder of Mekong, decided to switch from pedals to paddle and to travel down the legendary Mekong river, from northern Laos to its mouth in the Southern China Sea. During this journey the idea of manufacturing an ultralight boat, strong and big enough to carry enough gear for a long time on the river, (bicycle included!) was born. Back in France, Olivier starts to work on a first packraft prototype. Today Mekong designs and products a range of 9 different boats, all of them manufactured in Crest, by the Drôme river.
Located in the Czech Republic, this inflatable manufacturer is one of the few to produce kayaks in elastomer-coated fabric - Nitrilon (polyethylene chlorosulfone, the equivalent of Hypalon) - a coating similar to natural rubber, offering maximum watertightness, UV and abrasion resistance. In short, it's the choice for excellent longevity for your boats, and the ability to use them in "extreme" conditions: high temperatures, "abrasive" rivers. It it's not uncommon to see Gumotex models purchased in the the 80s still running rivers.
