Preparations for the 2026 Open Canoe Festival are well underway. Of the six months required, the first two have already been particularly intense.

Partners already on board

Many thanks to Canoë Diffusion and Esquif, who are renewing their commitment as main partners. Palm Equipment is also continuing the adventure alongside us as a major partner.

This year, we are launching a new support format: Web Partners. It allows organisations to support the festival while benefiting from targeted digital visibility within the OCF community. We are delighted to already count on Safran Tours, Eau Vive Embrun, the National Union of Professional Canoe-Kayak Guides and Associated Disciplines, as well as Selvatico Tours.

An outstanding instructor lineup

The instructor team is almost finalised and, once again, the lineup is of a very high standard.
Experienced and well-known coaches, complementary profiles and a wealth of expertise will be at the service of participants.
The Staff section of the website will be updated progressively.

Film for the opening night

The opening night film has now been selected. Horizons parallèles tells the story of a remarkable West-to-East crossing of Canada, led by a Québec-based team already behind a previous North–South expedition. A film that promises a great opening evening.

Exhibitors already confirmed

Five exhibitors have already confirmed their presence for 2026: La Maison du Canoë, Passion Nature, Mekong Packrafts, Aubrac Rando, as well as our partners Canoë Diffusion and Palm.
Additional exhibitors and partners will be announced in the coming weeks.

Registration

Registration will open on January 15.

La préparation de l’édition 2026 de l’Open Canoe Festival est bien lancée. Les deux premiers mois, sur les six nécessaires, ont déjà été particulièrement intenses.

Des partenaires déjà bien engagés

Un grand merci à Canoë Diffusion et Esquif, qui renouvellent leur engagement en tant que partenaires principaux. Palm Equipment poursuit également l’aventure à nos côtés en tant que partenaire majeur.

Cette année, nous lançons une nouvelle formule de soutien : les Partenaires Web. Elle permet aux structures qui le souhaitent d’accompagner le festival tout en bénéficiant d’une visibilité digitale ciblée auprès de la communauté de l’OCF. Nous sommes ravis de pouvoir déjà compter sur Safran Tours, Eau Vive Embrun, le Syndicat National des Guides Professionnels de Canoë-Kayak et Disciplines Associées, ainsi que Selvatico Tours.

Un casting d’instructeurs très solide

L’équipe d’instructeurs est quasiment bouclée et le casting est, une fois encore, de très haut niveau ! Des coachs reconnus, des profils complémentaires et beaucoup d’expérience au service des participants. Jetez un oeil à la rubrique « Staff » du site sera mise à jour progressivement.

Le film de la soirée d’ouverture

Le film de la soirée d’ouverture est désormais choisi. Horizons parallèles raconte une superbe traversée du Canada d’Ouest en Est, menée par une équipe québécoise déjà à l’origine d’une précédente aventure Nord-Sud. Un film qui promet une belle soirée de lancement.

Des exposants déjà confirmés

Cinq exposants ont déjà confirmé leur présence pour 2026 : la Maison du Canoë, Passion Nature, Mekong Packrafts, Aubrac Rando, ainsi que nos partenaires Canoë Diffusion et Palm. D’autres exposants et partenaires viendront compléter cette liste dans les semaines à venir.

Inscriptions

L’ouverture des inscriptions est prévue pour le 15 janvier.

En attendant, nous vous souhaitons à toutes et à tous de très bonnes vacances, ainsi que de belles fêtes de fin d’année.

Nature has decided to play a few tricks on us this week!


Due to heavy rainfall, the Drôme River is in flood and unfortunately won’t be navigable for canoe descents as originally planned. But no worries — we won’t let that spoil the party!

The Open Canoe Festival is still happening, and we’ve put together an awesome backup program for you.


Most of the workshops will be moved to a nearby lake, so you can still paddle and learn new techniques with our 35 instructors.
There’s enough space for everyone on the lake, and you’ll be able to sign up for sessions directly on site.

The safety workshops (throwing techniques, rope handling, etc.) will go ahead as planned.

And that’s not all! Lots of land-based activities await you: talks, conferences, demos, screenings…
Many of these were already on the schedule — only the river workshops will be adapted.

Remember: the OCF is led by top canoe-tripping specialists, all eager to share their skills and passion.

In short, everything’s in place for a fantastic weekend, even without the river — especially with the weather set to improve!

The atmosphere will be just as great, the paddling community will be there, and the spirit of the festival stronger than ever: adaptability, friendliness, and a shared love of canoeing.

La nature a décidé de nous jouer des tours cette semaine !


En raison des fortes pluies, la Drôme est en crue et ne permettra malheureusement pas les descentes en canoë comme prévu. Pas de panique : on ne va pas se laisser gâcher la fête !

L’Open Canoe Festival aura bien lieu, et nous vous avons préparé un super programme de repli.


Une grande partie des ateliers sera déplacée sur un lac, afin que vous puissiez continuer à pagayer et apprendre de nouvelles techniques avec nos 35 instructeurs.
 Il y aura de la place pour tout le monde, et les inscriptions se feront directement sur place.

Les ateliers de sécurité (lancers, manipulations de cordes, etc.) pourront également se dérouler normalement.

Et ce n’est pas tout ! De nombreuses activités au sol vous attendent : échanges, conférences, animations, projections… Beaucoup d’entre elles étaient déjà au programme ; les ateliers initialement prévus en rivière seront simplement adaptés.

Rappelons que l’OCF est encadré par les meilleurs spécialistes du canoë-bivouac, tous prêts à partager leur savoir-faire et leur passion.

Bref, de quoi passer un excellent week-end, même sans rivière — d’autant plus que la météo s’annonce plus clémente !

L’ambiance sera au rendez-vous, les passionnés aussi, et l’esprit du festival sera plus fort que jamais : adaptation, convivialité et passion du canoë.

We haven't been able to cut down any of the large trees that stand in the way.
The lower the level of the Drôme, the more dangerous the passage.

Jamie Barnes' film « A canoe Perspective » sums up the values of the Open Canoe Festival perfectly. It will open the Festival on Friday, April 18, 9:30 p.m. under the Tipi.


Finding purpose, identity and perspective through canoe expeditions… In May 2022, British adventure filmmaker Jamie Barnes travelled to Scotland with Canadian long-distance canoe paddler Martin Trahan. They aimed to paddle a small but formidable route, but a series of tribulations made their expedition even more challenging. This film documents their journey whilst exploring the reasons why canoeing is more than just a form of recreation but a way of finding purpose, identity, and perspective in an ever-changing world.

« Canoeing trips are all about the basics. Stripping away the things you don’t need and taking only the essentials. Paddling. Portaging. Camping. Fighting headwinds and enduring cold, wet weather. Marveling at the landscape while being challenged by the terrain. All are part of what makes these trips special and beckon us to go back for more.

Our modern lives can sometimes make us too methodical, and analytical. But the flow of nature doesn’t work like that; the wind and the water are ever-changing and do not conform to the plans we make. Canoeing teaches you to let go and be more present in the moment. »
